History of the EVPQ
The Ensemble vent et percussion de Québec was created in 1995 on the initiative of its artistic and musical director, René Joly.From the beginning, the Faculty of Music at Laval University welcomes the EVPQ as a partners in order to encourage the development of high level music for wind orchestra in the region of Quebec city.
Driven by a exeptionel dynamism through the determination of its leader and its 55 musicians, the EVPQ devotes all his energy to promoting the finest works in the repertoire for wind band.The discovery of new works destined to become important in the repertoire of wind ensemble is also part of the main objectives of the ensemble.
In addition to its concerts in the regular season at the Salle Henri-Gagnon Université Laval, the ensemble has also played at the Grand Théâtre de Québec, Palais Montcalm, Quebec city Convention Center, St. John the Baptist church and the Capitole de Québec. In 1998, the EVPQ presented concerts opening and closing of the classical part of the Quebec city Summer Festival.The following year the ensemble was part of the programmation of the town of Sainte-Foy in Park Roland-Beaudin. Concerts of EVPQ are broadcast regularly on CBC Radio-Canada and even live on the Internet. In 1997, the Ensemble was making a first recording for ATMA. The Lord Of The Rings is now distributed in Canada, the United States and Japan. The disc has also been nominated for a Prix Opus of the Quebec Council of Music in 1998.
The year 2002 was marked by the launch of a second disk always with ATMA. Since its launch, Harmony in Blue, which includes works by Gershwin, Shostakovich and Jan Van der Roost, only received rave reviews.
